We have just come to the end of our final Physics topic 'Nuclear Physics'. Confusingly this has lots of ideas relating to the structure of the atom which we covered in our Y11 chemistry work at the end of Y10. The difference is that chemistry is concerned with interactions between the outer electrons of atoms (e.g. in ionic and covalent bonding), whereas physics is concerned with changes in the nucleus of the atom. Chemical reactions involve changes to electrons, nuclear reactions involve changes to the nucleus.
You need to be able to describe three kinds of nuclear reaction, with symbol equations showing the atomic numbers and atomic masses of each atom and particle (alpha, beta, neutron):
Radioactive decay (alpha and beta)
Nuclear fission
Nuclear fusion
